July PHD Update

by | Aug 5, 2023 | 5 comments

Gail of Quilting Gail challenges us each year to finish our UFOs and complete the starts we began in the year. Here is my update for July!

It was a busy month in other ways besides quilting…those darn vacations! LOL Here is what went down in the month of July.

I participated in two blog hops. The first was with Sarah at Confessions of a Fabric Addict, in her 12 Days of Christmas Blog Hop. I shared some of my past Christmas projects and ideas for Christmas gifts as well. You can see that post here. This is one of my favorite projects from that post.

The second blog hop I participated in was with Carol of Just Let Me Quilt. The theme for her hop was Picnic Party. I shared my little picnic quilt as well as a link to the free pattern in my post here. I love this little quilt!

I did get one of my UFO’s, Cabin Star, quilted, but it is not bound yet. Here it is lying across the tree that fell during the storm last week. Fortunately it missed our house by about 10 feet, BUT it partially took out Chicken Leg’s grilling tent, which we had just replaced last year from being ripped apart by winds! It was a BIG tree and could have been much worse. We are grateful it wasn’t. The good thing is he can still grill and be partially covered! These are Island Batik fabrics and was made maybe 2018 or 2020. Now I need to raid my stash for some pretty IB fabric to bind it with!

I didn’t make a lot of new starts in July due to vacation and other things. I think August will be much busier! Here are my spreadsheets for July.

No UFOs totally completed, but at least one partially! I will continue on!! That’s all for now. I’m linking up with Gail’s blog. Head over there and see how everyone is doing with their PHDs! See you next time!

I answer all comments via email. Please spread the love about my blog!

Your quilts are just gorgeous, Brenda. I love the Christmas runner. Oh I am so sorry to hear about the damage from the storm . You are so fortunate that it did not hit the house though. I hope you will be able to replace the grilling cover soon. Hugs

Your finishes are great!!! Once you pick out the binding for the Cabin Star, it’ll be a quick finish!
Thanks for linking to PHD in 2023!

I love how organized you are with your spreadsheets and UFO and PHD bits. I’m sure you have to stay “on task” with Island Batik projects. I can’t even manage keeping my STASHBUSTERS list going for Carole’s blog. It’s all in my head, and as I age, some things rattle around unfinished for way too long. Absolutely love your Cabin Star quilt. BEAUTIFUL ….and what a great spot to take a photo and have a story to tell too.

That’s a cute table runner, and your Cabin Star is pretty.Too bad about the tree, but I’m glad it wasn’t worse for you. Will you replace his cover? Love looking back at your projects!

What wonderful finishes. The owner of our local quilt shop made a table runner lined with Insulbright so she doesn’t have to use trivets. I thought it was a great idea.
