Virtual Cookie Exchange 2020

Greetings fellow quilters and crafters!! Welcome to day three and my day to share on the Virtual Cookie Exchange Blog Hop hosted by Carol of Just Let Me Quilt!! I think this is the third year(?) I’ve participated and always love this blog hop! Since Christmas is my favorite time of year, it’s so much fun to see everyone’s projects and drool over the yummy recipes they share! Thank you Carol for, again, hosting this fun hop!

This year has been so crazy that we need some sense of normalcy right now. And for me, this is it! I have all my Christmas shopping done and now just need to spend some time wrapping. And soon, riding around looking at the lights! Another of my favorite traditions!

I have been searching for a really cool recipe to share with the kiddos on our Christmas baking day this year and I found this. NOW, I have not made these yet, but they looked so cute and sound fun and easy for children, so this is what I would like to share with you! I managed to maintain on WW during Thanksgiving week, so I am resisting testing sweets recipes until closer to Christmas! LOL That’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it!!

We all love sugar cookies!! Aren’t these adorable??! You can find the recipe at Betty Crocker.com!

OK, so I couldn’t stop with just one!! I love the food blog, Plain Chicken. Maybe it’s because Stephanie’s a southern girl too, and lives about 30 minutes north of me, but definitely it’s because she has some great recipes that I’ve even adapted to my WW lifestyle (like Alfredo Chicken Chili, which I made for dinner tonight, and Taco Vegetable Soup!!) At any rate, this cookie recipe popped up in my inbox this morning and it sounds so good! Peppermint sticks were always a part of our tradition growing up. My Granny loved soft peppermint sticks and my dad would buy oranges, apples, and peppermint candies (among other goodies) and we would make little bags for the kids in our church. Fun, sweet, childhood memories!! So when I saw this, I knew it was to be added to our Christmas baking tradition with the grandloves.

Don’t those look so yummy? This recipe can be found at Plain Chicken! While you are there, take a look around her blog. She has some great recipes!!

In November, our guild hosted national teacher, Susan K. Cleveland, for our guild program and two classes, via Zoom. I think she is just so funny and I had been eyeing her book, Dynamic Dresdens. So her classes gave me the perfect excuse to do a little shopping at her website Pieces be With You! (I am not affiliated with her in any way, I just enjoy her classes and tools!) She has some great combo prices on her books and tools. So for the class I chose, I purchased the Dynamic Dresdens book and rulers. I already had the Prairie Pointer. Our guild meeting was on Monday and on Tuesday afternoon we had a three hour lecture/demo on Dynamic Dresdens. The other class was the Piping Hot Binding. That will be my next purchase!! LOL

So using her 18 degree ruler, and some Christmas fabric from my stash, I cut the blades and stitched them together. Her technique is different than what I know of other Dresdens.

Next I cut a 7 x 11 piece of one of my favorite Christmas fabrics in my stash and a backing of a coordinating fabric. Then I digitized a cute Santa Kitty in a cup! Next I cut it to 6-1/4 x 10-1/4, quilted it, added the quarter Dresden to the corner, stitching it in place over the quilting, and bound it with my favorite Moda binding on a roll!! And here it is!

For those of you with embroidery machines, you can download this design free of charge here until 12/8/20. You will need to add it to the cart and create an account to be able to download. I hope you will visit my fellow bloggers and enjoy some more Christmas cheer! And remember, there’s one more day!! Thanks for visiting today!

I answer all comments via email. Please spread the love about my blog!

Hi! I love the Kitty in a cup embroidery pattern. However, when I click the link, I get a 404 error. I can’t find the pattern anywhere in your shop. Thanks for your help!

Oh those cookies look wonderful. Kuddos to you for sticking to your WW plan. Susan Cleveland is an amazing quilter. I was lucky enough to be at the Quilt Show taping the time she shared her new Dynamic Dresdens book. She was quite the inspiration and her Dresens really are fun to play with. I love how you added it to your beautiful embroidery.
