Witchy Stitchy Blog Hop

Greetings all! Welcome to day one, and my day to share my project for the Witchy Stitchy Blog Hop, hosted by Carol of Just Let Me Quilt! Thanks Carol for coordinating all this witchy-stitchy fun!!

When thinking about what I wanted to create for this Halloween hop, so many things came to mind! I’m just not into super scary Halloween critters, so I went a little more tame! I love drinking coffee, so mug rugs are one of my favorite things to make. In addition to quilting, I also love to digitize embroidery designs – especially in-the-hoop designs. So I took one of my digitized designs – Boo Brew – which can be found here and decided to do an applique version of it.

Boo Brew Mug Rug done entirely in the hoop!

I digitized the art work (cup, saucer and Boo by Cheryl Seslar), reversed it, and got out my HeatnBond Lite fusible webbing. I was out of the printable sheets, but since this was a small project, it was fine to use my roll of HeatnBond Lite! I traced the reversed design onto the fusible, cut out about 1/4 inch around each part, and fused them to the fabric. Then I trimmed on the lines, peeled the backing and fused them to my background. While I’m not a fan of spiders, spider webs fascinate me with their intricacy! There’s an old song that goes something like “I don’t like spiders and snakes” – well that’s me!! ? Anyway, I really love this spider web background fabric – maybe because it sparkles!! I do love bling!!

I cut my background fabric 6 x 8 inches and the backing 8 x 10. I fused HeatnBond Fusible Fleece (which is on sale right now!) to the background fabric and dug out my Glowy thread and outlined everything, and used one of the decorative stitches on my Icon to go across the cup. Unfortunately, it doesn’t show as well as I would like because it’s been in my cabinet drawer for so long! But hopefully you can see a little of it in the second picture below. After stitching everything down, instead of traditional binding, I trimmed the backing to the size I wanted, folded it over twice and (kind of!) mitered the corners – or at least I tried to as best I could!! And tada, I present to you Boo Brew Mug Rug II, applique style!!

If you would like a free copy of the applique designs, please click here.

SURPRISE!!! I have a giveaway for you. I was going to create a second project but time slipped away too quickly! I will show you what it was and give you the opportunity to win a copy of the magazine it was in. I plan to make three of these for my grandkids all in their favorite colors! I thought they were really cute.

VERY cute mug rugs, and so is the zipper design monster. Any child would love that, and what grown-up doesn’t have a wee bit of monster love in them? Isn’t that why we have children? =)

Such cute treat bags! I love to make my son’s Halloween costumes. We typically start with a long-sleeve t-shirt or hooded sweatshirt and embelish from there into whatever he wants to be.
