Today I would like to share with you a tutorial on the Union Square block. I created this block as part of a quilt along sponsored by Fat Quarter Shop (affiliate) and you can read their post and see other bloggers’ versions of this block, as well by clicking here! This block pattern is FREE! Thank you, FQS!!
My LQS did not have the Susanna’s Scraps line of fabric in yet, so I chose two “springy” looking fabrics! One is by Moda, the other by Wilmington. I then cut out the pieces as directed!
First I made the corner blocks, which to me look like little kitty cat heads!! Then I made the hour glass blocks. As long as I’ve been quilting, I do not recall ever making hour glass blocks, but they were fun! This definitely won’t be my last time!
Aren’t they cute” Don’t you think they look like kitty cat heads??! LOL Hour glass blocks!
Then came the real fun – laying it out and putting it all together!

Next I stitched the pieces of row 1 together, followed by row 2 and row 3, then stitched row 1 to row 2 and then added row 3, as per the instructions!

And here is my completed block!

You can purchase, and dowload, the complete Union Square Quilt Pattern here. The pattern features Susanna’s Scraps by Betsy Chutchian for Moda Fabrics. Also available is a complete kit and a backing set for the Union Square Quilt.
I hope you’ve enjoyed this short tutorial. Until next time…
Great block – thanks for the instructions!
Very pretty block. Your instructions are so easy to follow, thank you for that. The fabric you used is quite nice- ‘love the small “pop” of red in it.
That’s really pretty! I’m glad to get the pattern.
A really big thank you for the free quilt block directions. A new reason to buy more fabric
Thank you
Thank you Brenda for the awesome instructions on how to create this lovely quilt square. Love the fabrics you used in your square.
