No, these geese are not the feathered kind!! Greetings friends! Welcome, and thank you for joining me as we kick off the Vincent’s Garden Pre-Cuts Blog Hop! This hop features Karen Overton’s Signature Collection Vincent’s Garden, by Kathy Engle of Island Batik. In case you don’t know Karen (aka The Quilt Rambler), she describes herself as a quilter who loves to ramble! She is a national teacher, quilt designer, certified Studio 180 instructor, and loves to inspire others! Karen, I am absolutely delighted that you asked me to participate in the release of your first signature line with Island Batik! Keep reading to the end as there is a give away!
A while back, I received some happy mail from Karen that included a set of 10 inch squares and some black Island Batik Foundations fabric, with the challenge to create a quilt for this hop. We were also told we could use other Foundations fabrics in our quilts. Oh my!! I am such a fan of Island Batik fabrics it was difficult to decide which fabrics to add to this beautiful collection. After much thought, I chose to add some chartreuse and cheddar! Those of you who know me well know that it was difficult for me to not add a purple in there! And while yellows aren’t really in my wheelhouse, I fell immediately in love with cheddar as it blended so well with Vincent’s Garden.
I had a couple of ideas in mind, so I opened up EQ8 and started playing. After several days of playing, I finally decided on the design you will see below. I love the process of creating a quilt, from designing, to selecting fabrics, to stitching it together, all the way to quilting and binding! So without further ado, here is my quilt, Geese Along the Trail!
I was going to use all Snail’s Trails blocks but changed my mind at the last minute! Snail’s Trail is a new favorite of mine. I used the Snail’s Trail BOB by AccuQuilt, to cut out these blocks. It makes quick work of cutting pieces! In fact, I used my AccuQuilt GoBIG, to cut everything except the flying geese blocks because I didn’t have the correct size in my stash!
Stats:
Fabric: Vincent’s Garden 10 inch squares, Island Batik Foundations in black, cheddar and chartreuse. If I counted correctly, I used 17 fabrics in the line.
Thread: All piecing was done with my favorite 50 wt Aurifil thread. Quilting was done with 40 wt and Bottom Line 60 wt in the bobbin.
Batting: Quilter’s Dream Dream Poly because I love the loft and softness it provides.
Pattern: Geese Along the Trail – pattern coming soon!
Vincent’s Garden is available NOW in Karen’s shop here. She has several patterns as well, including new releases made using her signature line! So please check them out!
And now for the giveaway! Oh, but wait!! Did I mention there are TWO giveaways?? Island Batik has sponsored this giveaway in part by providing not one, but two complete fat quarter sets of Vincent’s Garden, that’s 20 different fat quarters! As a bonus Karen added a yard of either the light background (Sprinkles) or the dark background (solid Black). These two giveaways are for US residents only. But not wanting anyone to be left out, Karen is sponsoring a PDF giveaway that is open internationally as well as to US residents – one randomly drawn quilter will receive digital copies of her three patterns designed for this beautiful collection. The giveaway ends March 6th with the winners given a 48 hour to respond to verify their information. How awesome is that?! You can enter once a day!

Thanks so much for visiting! I hope you are inspired by something you see on this blog hop and the gorgeous Island Batik fabric!!
Very pretty, bright, and cheerful!
What an exuberant quilt, Brenda! That black Island Batik looks so fabulously saturated, like it might be great for Amish-inspired quilts, too. I’m going to have to look for it at my LQS. Thanks for linking up with TGIFF!
If I win I would try my hand at some New York Beauty Blocks!
Great colors to work with.
Brenda this quilt is just so vibrant. The addition of the cheddar and chartreuse just makes the Vincent’s Garden colours shine.I love the Snails Trail Block, too!
Love your quilt – I hadn’t seen that “snail” block before – but it looks great with this collection!

Wow! Combining the snail’s trail and flying geese blocks is so fun! Both blocks are classic and the movement provided by each is perfect for using Vncent’s Garden fabrics!
