Wow, I can’t believe September is almost over! It’s less than three month until Christmas!! Have you started your Christmas stitching? I plan to start early every year, but I procrastinate, uh, stuff always happens that gets in the way! ? I am working on one of those secret projects that will involve Christmas also – but that will come later!
Last month at Quilt Club at ZigZag Sewing Studio we were asked to bring a yard of some “ugly” fabric. Well, most of us don’t really buy ugly fabric, right?! So I chose some fabric from the “what was I thinking when I bought this?” category! In class, it was interesting to see what everyone thought was their “ugly” fabric. Our leader had us pass our yard of fabric to the person on our right, who then cut it in half, kept half, and passed the other half to the next person. There were seven of us in class, so as the fabric came back to the original owner we received only a tiny amount of what we came with! We were then challenged to create a project with all those fabrics. We could add other fabrics, but our project must have at least some of each of the fabrics we received from the swap. This was a fun little challenge. I had, just the day or so before, watched a video by Jenny Doan of Missouri Star Quilt Company (no affiliation) on making zipper bags. So I decided that would be my project. I decided to stitch strips of part of the fabrics I received together for the center, one for the outer strips, and another for the lining. Of course, we had more of some and only a little bit of some of the fabrics, due to everyone cutting what they received in half.
This month, we were to bring in our completed projects, if we had a chance to get them done. So yesterday, we met and shared our projects. Some were out, and some had not yet completed their project, but thankfully our leader is very understanding and gave extra time! We had a mug/candle mat, a small wall hanging, and my zipper bag! I wish I had taken pics of the other projects, but I forgot, but here are some pics of my little bag. You can click the picture to get a larger view! I LOVE that zebra fabric! Unfortunately that was the smallest piece I got and only got the rear ends, but I think they are adorable!! LOL

I thought it was very interesting how the fabrics coordinated!! Thanks to a little improv strip piecing (well maybe more planned improv!!), we all had a great time and cute outcomes. Who woulda thunk it??!!! LOL See, there really is NO ugly fabric!
OK, I’m off to do some more secret sewing – here’s another little teaser of that! Happily chain-piecing away! More to come soon! Plus I’m working on a new Halloween pattern and hope to have it ready soon. These are some of the fabrics I’m using!! I purchased these from Fort Worth Fabric Studio (no affiliation) and they even threw in some extra goodies – thank you, FWFS!! If you are looking for some cute fabric, click on over there – they only have a couple left in stock!! I will use this plus some of my other stash fabrics!! Now to get that pattern written up and made!!
Next week is the last week of the My Happy Place Row Along 2018. I’ll be back on Tuesday to give you the links and update you on what’s happening at Songbird Designs! I hope you all have a great weekend. Until next week…
Thanks!
Your zebras are so cute.
Those Zebras make a statement don’t they. I would do likewise with them.
Great choice for your ugly fabric! We had an ugly fabric challenge on my sewing forum one time, and it was so much fun. We drew names and swapped ugly fabric.
