Welcome to the first day of the Island Batik Threaded Chaos Blog Hop with Aurifil! Our challenge this month is to create a crazy quilt using the new Island Batik collection we received in our July boxes, and four spools of Aurifil thread, supplied by Aurifil!
I will be kicking off this blog hop with the first collection of the month – Aurora – an original collection by Deb Tucker’s Studio 180 Design for Island Batik by Lumin Fabrics. This is beautiful collection. Just look at these gorgeous fabrics!!

I had a lot of fun with this challenge, digging through my stash to find embellishments to add to the blocks. I made this quilt using the Quilt As You Go (QAYG) method, which is the first time I’ve done anything this size using QAYG. I’ve done a few placemats in this method, so I at least had a starting point. You Tube is your friend when you want to learn new techniques!! LOL
The threads I chose for my quilt from Aurifil are shown below, but I couldn’t just stop at those!! I have quite a stash of Aurifil that I’ve collected over the years and I made good use of it. I think I used at least three others in addition to these!

I began by cutting wedges of all the fabric, following instructions in this YouTube video by Pattern Poole. Next came the fun part of sewing each strip to the batting and backing and adding fun stitches in addition to embellishments to some of the blocks. After completing all the blocks, I stitched them together by joining the backs and adding sashing to the front. I really love how this turned out. Here she is – Go Crazy!!
Here are a few closeups of the stitches I used to show of the thread for this quilt!
Quilt Stats:
Name: Go Crazy
Size: Approximately 44 x 53 inches.
Fabric: Aurora by Deb Tucker’s Studio 180 Design for Island Batik. I used all 22 fabrics in this collection.

I am the only ambassador sharing today, but there will be three more collections to show this week. You can see the entire schedule for this week and the next two weeks on my post HERE.
I hope you will visit my fellow ambassadors this month as they share their fun crazy quilts using beautiful new Island Batik collections. There will be two giveaways in this blog hop. The first will be on September 12th, and the second on the 19th. Unfortunately, the Lumin Fabrics website and blog have not been functioning properly, which means the Threaded Chaos Blog Hop and giveaways will run exclusively on Instagram and Facebook. The recaps will be shared in two or three parts. Since Instagram doesn’t allow direct blog links the Rafflecopter isn’t an option this time. Followers should enter by leaving comments on Facebook and Instagram, and each week we’ll randomly select two winners, one from each platform. Be sure to follow Lumin Fabrics on Facebook and Instagram to enter the drawings.

Hi Brenda, what a lovely quilt! The fabric, the stitches and embellishment are really great! Congrats on your finish!
Thus is beautiful! I love the colors and especially the movement that you created in the quilt!
Absolutely gorgeous!
What an amazing, beautiful quilt!!
Pat B.
Thank you so much, Pat!
Oh yum! Go Crazy is just gorgeous, Brenda. Love the blues, deep violets and soft lavenders. I bet you had a ball working on this beauty. Have a beautiful day. Hugs
Thank you, Melisa. I did have a blast making this! Hope you’re having a great camping trip! I’ll have to tell you what happened to my kids on their Labor Day camping trip!
What a fun quilt! I love the way you did it and bet you had a blast with the fun stitches. I did a table runner like this (a little different technique) and loved doing all the stitches. Maybe its time to revisit this fun way to use all the stitches and ribbons!
Beautiful!
I love your crazy quilt – very pretty! I’ve been meaning to make one for a long time for my oldest granddaughter, who would love it. Thanks so much for the YouTube link – I just went to it and bookmarked it.
Very pretty, I bet you had fun looking for just the right trims.
Thanks Vicki! I really had fun with this one!
Beautiful fabrics, and beautiful quilt. Congrats!
Thank you so much!
You made a beautiful quilt with these pretty colors. I haven’t made a QAYG for a long time. Perfect thread!
Thank you!!
Oooh Brenda! Your quilt is absolutely gorgeous! I love everything about it–the fabrics, the stitching and the embellishments. I definitely have to try making one like this using your method. Thanks for sharing today.
Beautiful quilt. Of course those are some of my favorite colors!! And Aurafil is my favorite thread.
What a beautiful quilt Brenda and the stitches you added are perfect!
Beautiful Brenda!
