Island Batik challenged the ambassadors this month to create an Irish Chain quilt. AccuQuilt provided a BOB (Block On Board) Irish Chain die to use for this challenge. We were to use our “Surprise” fabric for this blog hop and the quilt should be lap size or larger. Challenge accepted!!
After perusing some Irish Chain quilts from various sources, I cranked up Electric Quilt 8 and began designing. I started out thinking I would make one design, but then changed my mind and went in a somewhat different direction for the alternate blocks.
Island Batik provided a half yard bundle of beautiful fabric. This collection is called Autumn Twilight, a signature collection by Jerry Khiev for Raija Salomaa of Quilters’ Treasure Chest. This collection has beautiful blues, teal/aquas, and purples melded beautifully into the fabric. It is really pretty. I just love the pumpkins, pinecones, and leaves, which remind me so much of fall!

First I chose two light fabrics and the the dark 2 yard cut (the lower right cut in the photo above) for the “chains.” I stitched 120 four-patch units for this quilt!

Since the AccuQuilt BOB makes a 10-inch finished block, I had some headachy quilty math to figure for my alternate chain block, but I finally got it done! LOL
The light background fabric I received is one of the Island Batik basics, always available, called Whip Cream. And here is my completed quilt – Chain of Grace.
Quilt Stats
Quilt Name: Chain of Grace
Size: Approximately 58 inches square
Fabric: Island Batik Autumn Twilight collection with 2 yard cuts of Whip Cream and and a 2 yard cut of one of the SKUs Pinecone and Needles, Blue Midnight Blue. The backing is Island Batik solid black.

Needle: Schmetz 80/12 Microtex, which are my preferred, especially for batiks.
Batting: Hobbs 80/20 Black batt.
Pressing: My sweet Oliso Mini Pro iron!

Thanks to the following for providing the materials to make this quilt: Island Batik/Lumin Fabrics, Aurifil thread, Schmetz needles, Hobbs Batting, AccuQuilt, and Oliso.

That is Beautiful!!!
Your Irish Chain is gorgeous. Love the curves without the curved seams! Congrats on another beauty!
Brenda Chain of Grace is breathtakingly beautiful. I’d tried to imagine how it would look when you put your blocks together, but this was not what I expected. I love the IB fabrics you used. The colours are perfect. Thank you for sharing on ToDo Tuesday. 🤗 Carol
