Do you love dogwood trees? They are absolutely one of my very favorite blooming trees. When we built our house 26 years ago, the woods were full of wild dogwood trees, which thrilled me beyond measure! Unfortunately, through the years, storms and other factors have destroyed many of them, but we do have a few left and I enjoy seeing them each spring. We don’t have any, but I particularly love the pink dogwood trees. Their blooms are just beautiful. As part of the Crafter’s Edge Design Team, I decided these gorgeous blooms would be the inspiration for my post this month! Crafter’s Edge has some awesome and fun products!
The grandloves spent the night with us Friday night, so Saturday morning, while her brothers were playing games, I asked my granddaughter, who is 12, if she would like to help with my project. Of course she said yes. I’m so glad this girl loves playing with fabric like I do!
Crossover II
Miss M picked the fabrics and decided which would go where and so the fun began! She had a great time using the Crossover II.
I had in mind to make a brooch that she could pin on her clothes or her purse. She liked that idea! After choosing the fabrics, I found some scrap pieces of HeatnBond Lite that fit the fabric areas we need to cut and the first step was to press them to the wrong side of the fabric. Some pieces were irregular, but they served our purpose!

I wanted the petals to be the same on both sides, so the next thing was to peel the HeatnBond Lite, fold the fabric over and press again to create a piece of fabric with two right sides!!

Next we decided which fabric to use for each of the three different sizes of flowers. We placed them, one at a time, onto the cutting platform and she rolled them through the Crossover II.
Next, I stitched the three flowers together and M chose a button for the center. While searching for the perfect button, I ran across the bling box!! This girl loves bling like her GiGi!! She had fun adding the crystals. Here is our creation!

Unfortunately, I could not find the pin backs in my stash resource file, so I guess I’ll have to head to Hobby Lobby, oh darn!! LOL
Thank you to Crafter’s Edge for providing me with these fun products to get my creative juices flowing!! It’s great to be a part of the Design Team!!

This week, the 17th through the 21st, my friend Carol of Just Let Me Quilt is hosting the Born to be Wild Blog Hop. Just click on the link to see who’s posting each day!
I’ll be back later this week with a few more updates before my brother and sister-in-law arrive for a visit before their granddaughter’s graduation.
What a cute brooch! Love the extra bling. And with a blog named Darling Dogwood, you know the dogwood blossom is my favorite!! Love this!
Hi Brenda! I do LOVE dogwood trees especially during the winter. The beautiful red branches stand out so nicely against the snow. What a fun project to do with your granddaughter. I am certain she will proudly wear it and tell all of her classmates and friends that she made it with her GiGi. ~smile~ Roseanne
That dogwood flower looks larger than I thought it was. Bling it always fun. I just signed up to get your posts by email because for some reason they are not showing up in my reading list anymore. Blogger can be a pain. So I better look and see what I have been missing.
BLING — oh how wonderful. I love that you found a project you could work on together!
The broach your granddaughter created is fabulous! I am sure it was an awesome time of fun for both of you.
