For August, the ambassadors were challenged to make a mini quilt. It could be a wall hanging, mini quilt, mug rug etc. but no larger than 24 x 24″, and using any technique. For my mini I combined applique and piecing!
I recently purchased the new AccuQuilt Sewing Machine Die and decided to make a mini quilt using it. I think it is sew very cute! One day I will make an entire quilt using it! But for now a mini is in order!
I had a fun time digging through my scraps of Island Batik projects and coming up with different fabrics to make this little quilt. For the background, I used Almond, which is one of my favorites and is available year round. The little spool blocks measure 3″ finished. Here is my sweet little mini quilt that measures about 15-1/2″ square!
I used my Oliso iron to set the Heat n Bond Light for the sewing machine applique, a Schmetz 80/12 nonstick needle. I tried a new batt from Hobbs, their fusible cotton batting, which worked great with this small quilt! I can also see using this batting for a wall hanging or a quilt I might quilt on my domestic machine to The quilting was done on my domestic machine using Aurifil white 50 wt thread for both the cross hatching and stitching in the ditch around the small blocks. Many thanks to Island Batik and their industry partners for providing the materials to make this quilt.
I hope you will visit my fellow ambassadors and check out their marvelous minis this month!
