Welcome everyone! This is my month to be a featured blogger for the 2021 Color Challenge, hosted by Jen at Patterns by Jen! This is my first time to participate and it has been a fun adventure!
For those of you new to the challenge, each month Jen offers a block pattern in both 6 and 12-inch sizes. She also has some great prizes each quarter from some amazing sponsors. The pattern remains free for the month and then is available for a small free. So be sure and check out this month’s block, make your own and enter the linky party to be entered for prizes!! July begins a new quarter, so be sure to stitch and enter!!
The color each month for 2021 is related to a food item. This month, the color is green and the food is lime!! Lime green is one of my favorite colors and green is also the younger, by one minute, of my twin grandsons favorite color!
When I started thinking about recipes for this month I thought, hmmm what do you use limes in? Well key lime pie came to mind, as well as the classic margarita, and that was about it! However, a quick Duck Duck Go search gave me plenty of options, so I will share these two with you!
The first is Lime Jello Salad! I don’t know why I didn’t think about that, especially since it was a childhood holiday favorite growing up! I’ve had several different recipes for this yummy dessert. Here is one of them from Kitchen Gidget. Another is using buttermilk! Now in all honesty, I do not like buttermilk alone, but in this salad it’s great! You can find it here at Southern Plate. Jello salad is great in the summertime as well! Very cool and refreshing in my opinion.
The second recipe I found sounds really yummy! It’s Key Lime Cookies and they are from the website parenting.com.
And finally, these two. Baked Cilantro Lime Chicken Wings from Iheartrecipes.com, and these great sounding Garlic Lime Chicken from timesofindia.com.
Now that I’ve tempted you with some really yummy sounding recipes, without further ado, I present my 2021 July Color Challenge block!

As with the previous blocks, I am using Moda Grunge Basics each month with silver. Now, hop over and pick up the July block from Patterns by Jen. She also has some great tips for making the block. I’ll be linking up with her at the end of the month! You can also check out the other bloggers for this month! I’m sure they would love for you to stop by and leave a comment!

Loving the grunge!!! Anne from Said WIth Love
Hi Brenda! Way to be on top of the July block!! I love those two color fabrics together, and I adore limes. I have one in my water glass all the time – until the flavor is gone. Just last night we made some bloody Mary’s with Roses Lime Juice (from India, it’s a sweetened from-concentrate lime juice that is delicious). And, not to get too far off topic, I made some key lime cookies that will be shared as Christmas cookies in the blog hop in December. So – very cool, and I love your block! ~smile~ Roseanne
Thanks for saying what grunge colors that you used in your blocks. Sometimes some of the grunge color families look so much the same when looking at them online in those little pieces they show. It’s nice to see them in a quilt block to get a better look at how they look. I am looking forward to seeing all the blocks this month. Might make one, we’ll see.
I like seeing your blocks using the grunge fabrics. Thanks for saying what colors they are. Sometimes looking online at all the colors of grunge, it is hard to tell the difference between some of the colors that are in the same color family.
That’s such a pretty color combo. Thanks for the recipes. My most “recent” lime food was Avocado Corn Salad. I made it this past weekend and loved it. My family liked it too. I ate the left overs scooped over some tortilla chips with melted cheese for lunch on Tuesday. My daughter said “just add black beans” to the recipe and you have a great cold supper. I used canned corn but next time I will use grilled fresh corn, and not cube the avocado so small. The lime made it delightfully fresh. Recipe – https://www.erinliveswhole.com/avocado-corn-salad/
