Despresso: that feeling when you’ve run out of coffee on a Monday ☕️😖

Happy Monday morning!!! Welcome to Monday Musings! I hope you have all had a great week, and those who celebrate Easter, a blessed Resurrection Day! It was a crazy busy week for me but a good one. I got to see all the grands and DD and SIL Saturday to finally celebrate her birthday. Miss M had a dance competition in the northern part of the state on DD’s birthday so it was good to see them all together. I’m still trying to get used to Miss M driving herself to and from school. <sigh> Now let’s move on to the good stuff!!
Here’s how my story ended for the week of 4/14 – 4/20/25:
- Start stitching the Opportunity quilt. DONE!! I have eight blue/bkg Monkey Wrench blocks (also called Churn Dash, Shoo Fly, and Hole in the Barn Door!) and four purple/bkg modified Churn Dash blocks done.
- Hopefully do a test block for my May Irish Chain project to see if my quilty math worked! DONE!! YAY!!! I finally figured out how to make my block work with the AccuQuilt die we were sent for May’s blog hop. I did a test block and it turned out the right size! Now I have another test block to make, but I don’t think I’ll have a problem with it! This was made from scraps.

- MD appointment on Wednesday. DONE!! Good report – see him back in a year!
- Whatever cranks my tractor! DONE!! Besides our Saturday lunch with the kiddos, on Monday I attended our guild meeting. I think attendance is finally making a comeback since Covid struck. We used to run between 100-130, sometimes more, each month and Monday we had 91. And, we had new people join. It’s good to see younger people taking an interest in quilting. Many of our older members have either passed or unable to attend any longer.
Plans for the week of 4/21 – 4/26/25:
- Continue working on Opportunity quilt.
- Make second test block for May IB challenge.
- Cut out part of May IB challenge and start piecing as leaders-enders – multitasking – YAY!!!
- Whatever suits my fancy!

Oops — I forgot to link up on Monday! Sounds like you had a really great weekend. Our immediate family was scattered so we didn’t get together. I’ve already made great progress on my list this week!
It sounds like a very busy but fun week with family and friends. You belong to a big quilt guild- how wonderful. Our guild never had more than 15 members with only about 7 or 8 in attendance. It lasted for about 10 years, but ended with COVID. I wish you a fabulous week, Brenda
Thanks Brenda! Looks like you had a nice week, with plans for another productive week.
Sounds like a wonderful week. The word Despresso made me laugh out loud. Thanks for that!

I’m so curious to learn what you’ll be doing with AccuQuilt for your Irish Chain project. One of my Wanna-Make projects is an Irish Chain, either adapting the method from an old Quilt In A Day book to do it with AccuQuilt strip dies instead, or else attempting it like the antique Irish Chain quilts that had blank alternate squares with the little corner patches hand appliquéd into position — done that way because it was way before rotary cutting and strip piecing methods, and because they were hand quilting everything then and this method doesn’t have any seams to quilt through in the alternate blocks where the fancy hand quilting would go. BTW I love that “Depresso” saying!! I should have it on a T-shirt. Or tattooed to my forehead. 😉
You’ve been quite busy. I love the smell of coffee but it tastes too bitter for me. My kids make fun of me because I’m weird, and then they let me smell their freshly poured coffee. I always say, “one day when I grow up, I’ll drink coffee.” I’m in my early 60’s…think there’s still time? I love the monkey wrench blocks. When are they called churn dashes? I saw another name for that pattern yesterday, in a scrappy version. It was called Hole in the Barn Door. I’m so confused!! I love all of you who belong to guilds. I don’t know of one near me. So I love hearing all the stories. I get that people are dropping out due to age, etc… It’s also hard for those who work full time and have family’s. Life evolves and we probably will see more online groups in future years. Meanwhile, keep attending your guild and don’t give up! I love hearing about the events.
Glad you had some family time! Looking forward to seeing how your Irish chain project turns out. Have a great week!
Oh I try to forget it is Monday, but that Monday comes and finds me with its long list of to-dos and then some. Hope your coffee is strong. I am pleasantly surprised that every Drunkards Path quilt is different. Excited to see the rest.
