I really love that there are no quilt police in our SAHRR! This week Gail is providing the prompt and she actually gave us a choice of two (or three) options! Here is Gail’s prompt:
Two Colours:
This week, we’re going to use 2 colours and you can make anything you like, but you’re going to use 2 colours. If you want, you can add in a neutral, which some would say is 3 colours. However, the SAHRR does NOT have quilt police, so you can do it YOUR way! There are probably over a million different blocks out there, so you can choose. I’m going to keep it simple and use a 4 patch.
I decided to follow the option for three colors since I wanted to incorporate the neutral and two of the colors that are in my center block. Here are my blocks for this prompt.
These blocks are fun and not too difficult to make. I fashioned it after an upcoming pattern I designed using precuts in a soon-to-be released collection of Island Batik fabric. The fabrics I used for these blocks are from the Just Dandy collection by Kate Colleran. They are still available in some places, and I did notice a 10″ stack of this line available from Hancock’s of Paducah (no affiliation). They do have some yardage available as well…but unfortunately not the entire line. The background fabric is also from Island Batik and is called Cornsilk. It is part of their foundations basics line that are available year round!
Again, you won’t see this round added to what I have already made because I am not placing them in the order of the prompts. You can do that too, if you’d like. Remember – no quilt police! LOL This block measures 8″ finished. I will also add some coping strips/spacers to make them fit where I want them.
Head to your studio and prepare to make your blocks for this prompt. Then head over to Gail’s blog and show them off in the linky pary. Remember, you interpret each prompt and it’s placement as YOU see fit! There are no quilting/designing police in this SAHRR!! Thank goodness!! As you can see, my blocks are many different sizes that work together to form this quilt! It’s all up to you! Make one block, make a row, or even an entire border!
If you don’t have a blog you can link up an Instagram post as well to be eligible for one of the many prizes that will be given away.
Visit each of the co-hosts and take a look at their interpretations of this round.

We will make a list and use a random number generator to choose the winners for each prize! So, if you link up to 3 Linky parties, you will have 3 opportunities to win! If you don’t have a blog or Instagram account, contact me, or one of the other co-hosts and we will post your SAHRR on our blog. This way you still have an opportunity to win! Oh, I love this block and can’t wait to see where it goes!
Brenda, I can imagine that block starting to walk, well really march dsown the street. It’s so clever.
This is an interesting block. I really like it 🙂
Thank you for your example of a fun and interesting 3-color block. It has pizazz and will really liven up any quilt — now the ideas are starting to arrive! Thanks!
I love the block!!! It’s striking! Can’t wait to see it in with all the others. And dark blue and light blue are both blue in my book!! But, what can I say except there are NO Quilt police! 🩵 😉
Your colors are so pretty, and I love that pattern Brenda! Can’t wait to see it for sale. 😀
Thank you so much, Linda! You are so kind. I do hope to have that pattern ready soon.
I like blocks that look complicated but are actually easy to make. These are lovely!
Your blocks are delightful and look like they were fun to piece!
That is a very pleasing color combination.
