Binding is not my favorite part of the quilting process. However, through the past years, I’ve learned to embrace it. Now, I do enjoy hand stitching it in the evenings while watching TV. I much prefer to buy binding on a roll from Moda, as here at the Fat Quarter Shop, than make it, but sometimes, you just can’t get a good match. Such was the case for my little Garden Friends quilt that I made in the It’s a Garden Party Blog Hop that was hosted by Marian at Seams to be Sew in September of 2020. With sadness, I discovered a couple of months ago that we lost Marian earlier this year, but I am happy to say I recently found out someone has picked up the gauntlet and is carrying on this row along theme. At any rate, I got this one quilted and made some binding this week for it. I even got it all stitched down and added a hanging sleeve last night. I will likely donate this one to our guild for the Silent Auction at QuiltFest next year. I had fun quilting this one, adding some butterflies and flowers in the quilting. I realized after I took the picture one of the crystals on the sunflower had popped off. I’ll add it back prior to QuiltFest! This pattern is available in PDF format here.

Also yesterday, I got the binding on another calendar quilt! This one will be my Table Scraps Challenge for July as the colors are dark ones, blues, browns, blacks, etc. On this one I did use my favorite Moda binding on a roll! Though it looks black, it’s really a deep navy color, so it fits right in with this month’s theme colors! I had fun quilting this one also, adding some flowers and notes for the birds singing!! I also did piano keys in the border. I think this is a first for me! I like the way it turned out and may use it again on smaller quilts! If you are looking for some fabric or notions, be sure and check out Fat Quarter Shop! They have great sales each month on Basics, Patterns, Notions, and Books. The Basics of the month is Blossom by Christopher Thompson for Riley Blake Designs! It’s sooooo pretty!!
So that’s two more things checked off my to-do list!! I’ll be linking up at the end of the month with Joy at The Joyful Quilter for the Table Scraps Challenge, and maybe a few others this week! Now, on to the rest of the list!! Have a great weekend everyone!
Wait! They have premade binding at the Fat Quarter Shop? I didn’t know that! Marian was a surprise loss for all of us. Your quilts are beautiful!
They are sooooo pretty!! I do like binding, especially by hand, I find it quite relaxing! xx
Hi Brenda! Great job on your two finishes. I keep forgetting about the Moda binding – I know once I try it, it will be a life changer. Thanks for the link to the Fat Quarter Shop. I’ve added a binding to my cart so the next time I order, it will be included. ~smile~ Roseanne
Those 2 quilts are beautiful!
