On Tuesday’s To-Do List, I mentioned I had been chasing a squirrel and would let you know about it today. I must say this was a really fun, though challenging squirrel! LOL
A while back C&T Publishing (affiliate) sent me some products to try and review. Kraft-Tex was one of those products. I wanted to see how it held up to both stitching and embroidery so I decided to use it in my Purse of the Month project by Sarah Vedeler of Meaning of Life Designs. This month’s purse is a cute phone/card holder. Most people, including Sarah, used cork or leather/faux leather for the flap of the purse. I didn’t have any of either so got some tips from the wonderful folks in the Facebook group on using fabric for the entire project. Then I had the great idea to try using Kraft-Tex for the flap. I had used it in a Christmas card I made using the embroidery machine and thought, why not?
In the above card, I used a denim colored Kraft-Tex. It is available in 8-1/2 x 11 inch sheets (in a pack) as well as in rolls. I picked out some batik fabric I’ve had a while as well as a color of Kraft-Tex I liked and away I went!
The flap of this is done in the hoop on the embroidery machine, the top, then the backing is added, also in the hoop. The remainder of the purse was done by machine stitching. I used a darker turquoise thread for the top and outer flower, then decided on a lime green for the inner flower as well as for the binding. The left is the front of the purse and the right picture is the inside with slots for cards and ID. The directions include an optional ID holder beneath the card slots but I chose to simply use a slot for my ID. My cell phone slips perfectly inside. While this squirrel took me about two days to complete, I learned a lot and had fun. Isn’t having fun what chasing squirrels is all about? The next one won’t take nearly that long since I know a little better what I am doing!
If you are considering trying Kraft-Tex, I say go for it. It held up well with the amount of embroidery for the purse. I love the way the card came out, but would probably use a design with less stitches. Since I digitized the card design it would be easy to change the density for it. Overall, I am very pleased with the results for both and highly recommend the product. I’ll be using more of this in future projects!

Oh this is just gorgeous Brenda! I haven’t done any hoop work in my Bernina in ages, but this makes me want to do some again. Thank you for linking up with DrEAMi!
Hi Brenda! That is one nifty phone/card holder (and I like the fabrics/color combination you used, too). Is Kraft-Tex kind of like a stiff batting? I’ll have to Google it to understand its uses. Thanks for sharing your cute project with us. ~smile~ Roseanne
