This month Island Batik and Aurifil have teamed up to bring us a fantastic challenge – Crazy Quilts!! I have always loved the look and fun of crazy quilt blocks with all the embellishments and special stitches. Welcome to my little crazy corner of the crazy quilts! LOL
For this challenge, Aurifil sent each of the ambassadors a color builder set. I received Golden Trumpet. These are three variegated threads containing various shades of yellow/gold. I used all three of these colors, plus an array of others from my Aurifil stash!
When I started thinking about how I wanted to design this project, I thought back to my last month’s challenge using a 2 1/2″ strip pack called Bits and Pieces, which I used to make a set of quilt as you go placemats. You can check out that post here. Here is a photo of them.
For my project, I chose to make a table runner using various left over fabrics from my past Island Batik projects. I also wanted to use the strips that were left over from last month’s challenge for the border of the table runner. In addition, I wanted to use some the embroidery designs I have digitized through the years, as well as some of the many fancy stitches in my Solaris.
I started with the center block and worked out from there. Well, it really isn’t in the center, but that’s what I am calling it!! This is a design from my Colorlace Flowers/Quilt Blocks that I made into a wreath and then added the star in the center. I love using mylar whenever I can. It adds sparkle without having to use sometimes finicky metallic threads.
And here are some close ups of the embroidery and crazy stitching in the rest of the runner. All of these designs are in my embroidery shop except the five small ones that I pulled from the Solaris.
And here is the finished table runner!
Here is a close up of the gecko (from my Solaris) and the quilting on the back.
I used the strips from Bits and Pieces to make the binding and stitched it down with a blanket stitch. This will go great with my place mats!
This runner was created with various pieces of Island Batik fabrics from my stash. The color builder thread set used, Golden Trumpet, was provided by Aurifil. I also used other Aurifil threads from my stash. I used Hobbs 80/20 batting, provided by Hobbs Bonded Fibers. Schmetz provided the 80/20 needle for piecing, embroidering and quilting!
Many thanks to Island Batik, Aurifil, Schmetz, and Hobbs for providing the materials used in making this project!
I had so much fun making this crazy quilt table runner! Please check out the other ambassadors’ projects
Thanks so much for stopping by to check out my crazy corner of the quilting world! Until next time…
Love it, especially the gecko. It looks like you had a lot of fun making this project. Have a great day!
Wow!! What an absolutely stunning table runner. I love everything you’ve added to it. Super sweet embroidery designs.
