Island Batik Celebrations Challenge

by | Dec 19, 2023 | 6 comments

This final month of 2023, Island Batik challenged us to choose a holiday with special meaning to use and create a project inspired by our chosen holiday. Since Christmas is always a very special holiday to me…and it is December…I chose to create a Christmas wall hanging!

I saw this Patchwork Christmas pattern by Judi Madsen and purchased it (no affiliation). But then, I chose to make it my own and mix things up a bit. I changed the size of it, as well as some of the blocks, and added some pretty bows for my presents! I have a lot of “scraps” (I really hate to call them that!!!) from prior projects, so I picked out the fabrics I wanted to use for this, which was the most difficult part! I stuck with more traditional Christmas colors in reds, greens, golds and white. Without further ado, here is my project.

I had so much fun quilting this one using free motion and rulers.

QUILT STATS

Quilt Name: Under the Tree
Size: 28 x 32″
Fabric: Island Batik – scraps from different projects.
Batting: Hobbs 80/20 was the perfect batt with just the right amount of definition for the quilting.
Thread: Aurifil 50 wt, which is the BEST piecing thread!
Needle: Schmetz 80/12, which is the perfect needle for piecing batiks.

Many thanks to Island Batik, Hobbs Batting, Aurifil and Schmetz needles for supplying materials used in making this quilt.

Thanks so much for visiting. Please check out my fellow ambassadors’ Celebration Challenge projects.

Thank you, Island Batik, for a wonderful year! Until next time…

Under the Tree is so festive and gorgeous, Brenda. It does look like a fun quilt to work on and I bet you had a ball looking through your treasure fabrics to create this beauty. Merry Christmas , sweet friend. Hugs.

You always rock the Island Batik challenges! This pattern is such a cute representation of a Christmas tree, and I love those bows on the packages. I agree, we really do need a better name for scraps!

Hi Brenda! Oh, what a fun quilt. I’m going to keep this in mind for next year as there’s not much time for me to finish a pretty Christmas quilt for this year. It’s a nice size for a wall hanging, don’t you think? {{Hugs}} a bunch! ~smile~ Roseanne
