Our sewing group in my hometown pieces two blocks each month. I just recently joined, so these are my first two. The thing is, we had to draw two colors from a bag and those are the colors we have to use, plus a neutral. Well, guess which colors I drew? Pink and orange, oh my! Now I love me some pink, but orange…well, that’s another story. So I really had to s-t-r-e-t-c-h my mind to make this work – and I was VERY pleasantly surprised! I like these colors together a lot better than I thought I would (which was NOT!!) See my July blocks below.
Our leader is also choosing blocks that are a little challenging, but so far I am really enjoying the challenge. The second block was not my favorite piecing the tiny squares together – but hey, you can do most anything for a short time! I really liked the block with rick-rack, yo-yo, and button. Can you believe this is only the second time I’ve made a yo-yo? Thank goodness for the internet!! LOL
See those two blocks at the top of the post? Those are my first folded fabric pinwheel blocks! We are making these blocks for a quilt to give the library manager, who has been very nice to our group and is retiring. I liked them so much I bought a couple of books on making origami flowers and folded fabric blocks while we were in TN a couple of weeks ago.
If you’re ever in Franklin, TN look up Stitcher’s Garden and make a visit. It is very crowded with fabric and books – over 10,000 bolts and prices are reasonable – just be careful maneuvering around! We also visited The Quilting Squares Quilt Shop while we were in town. Really nice folk there – very helpful. Another great place to shop!
Well… I am off to work on getting more embroidery designs up on the site.
Have a day blessed with PERFECT stitches!
Brenda
