Monday Musings 10/13/25

Happy Monday morning!!! Welcome to Monday Musings! I hope you have all had a great week and got a lot of fun sewing projects done! The weather in the south has been beautiful this week, not too hot, a bit of breeze rustling the leaves and making them fall to the ground, and really nice evenings. But…if any of you have a shower or two to spare, we really need it. Some areas of our state are under a strict no burn ban. Supposedly we are going to be clear and dry all week. I hope your fall weather is nice, and spring for my friends on the other side of the world! Now let’s move on to the good stuff!!

Many of you know this is breast cancer awareness month, but did you know it is also CRMO Awareness month? Most people have never heard of CRMO, which stands for Chronic Recurrent Multifocal Osteomyelitis. I hadn’t until my sweet Miss M was diagnosed with it several years ago. Fortunately, she has periods of remission, but when she has flares, her knees and/or ankles or other joints swell and are painful. This is hard on an active teenager who dances, swims, and does ALL the things, including archery. She is a trooper and never gives up. She is currently being treated with methotrexate, which is a chemo drug but she’s been blessed to not have any bad side effects from it. Some sources give a range of incidence as low as 1 in 1 million, while others suggest prevalence rates from 1 per 160,000 to 1 per 2,000,000. It is a rare autoinflammatory disease that affects children and young adults, with symptoms often appearing between ages 7 and 12.

And speaking of all the things, it was homecoming for our school system this week. She and her honey went to the high school dance and the boys, who are in 8th grade, went to the middle school dance. Of course, they also went camping Thursday night (about an hour and a half away) and had to drive back Saturday for the dances, then our daughter gathered them all up and headed back to camp. Sunday B and my SIL drove back up for B’s tennis match. Crazy weekend but they needed to get away for a while. I have to share some photos with you! Oh, and that is a fabric insert in front of her dress – not an open slit!! The boys are only 13 and already 6′ tall! My babies are all growing up…to quickly!

Here’s how my story ended for the week of 10/6- 10/12/25:

  • Hopefully…DEFINITELY…get that quilt loaded on the frame?! Well, guess what? STILL didn’t happen. I was headed to the quilt cave to get it on the frame when I picked up the back and was about to press it and realized…you didn’t MAKE the backing yet, you just cut the pieces! SEW, that is on my list for next week! Again.
  • Make binding and bind table runner. DONE!! I’ll be sharing this in Calico Joan’s blog hop which begins October 19th!
  • Start my December IB project. DONE!! Not only is it started…it is FINISHED! Since discovering the quilt backing was NOT made yet, I just worked on my project. I had a lot of fun with it.
  • Design some quilts for the Lumin/Island Batik catalog. DONE!! They are designed, now to upload them for review and see if they like them enough to include in the catalog.
  • Whatever cranks my tractor! DONE!! I played GiGi taxi a couple of days and Friday I picked up my new power chair and lift for the back of my vehicle. I’m so happy…I have WHEELS and it will be much easier on my knees as they are bone on bone and quite painful for walking any distance or standing over five minutes. I’m a happy GiGi!! I hope to be able to go to a swim meet and tennis match with the kiddos soon.

Plans for the week of 10/13- 10/19/25:

  • Guild meeting today (Monday).
  • Make backing and get it on the frame.
  • Sew Day with Friends on Wednesday. One of our ladies lost her son a couple of months ago and she is making memory quilts from his shirts, so I volunteered to bring my AccuQuilt GOBig and cut the blocks out for her.
  • Whatever suits my fancy.

Hi Brenda it sounds like you had a great but busy week. I’ve also forgotten that I hadn’t finished the backing on a quilt – it’s actually still waiting for it! Have a great week and thanks so much for the party!

I’ve not heard of CRMO before. I’m glad your grandaughter has a way of managing it so it doesn’t stop her from enjoying all those activities. I hope you all have a lovely week 🙂

I see a lot of ‘done’ on your list for the week-Yay! I had never heard of Miss M’s medical problem. She is so pretty, I am sure they had a good time at the dance.
