New Monday, new week, new goals. (Same old tired feeling though.)

Happy Monday morning everyone!!! Welcome to Monday Musings! I hope you had a great week. I can’t say ours has been the best. Unfortunately my brother and my brother-in-law are in western North Carolina. My brother, who has had three strokes, had wind damage at his home and no power. He is in a motorized wheelchair. They were able to get to a hotel about 30 miles from their home and the power had just come back on right before they arrived. So thankfully, they are in a safe place, but it’s really hard on him not being in the comfort of his own home. My brother-in-law lives in the mountains in Gerton, NC. They are basically stuck. Roads and bridges are washed out all around him. He helped on a rescue mission with the Fire Department to try to get to a couple of houses up on a mountain, with at least one couple in their 70s living there. Unfortunately they got almost to the top and had to turn around because of the mudslides. The FD has requested FEMA air drop water and food for the area. FEMA won’t even respond to them. I can’t say I have a lot of good to say about our government, and not helping those in need just pushed any warm and fuzzy feeling for this administration right off a cliff. We just finally heard from him today and they have enough food and water for about a week and a small charger. Their power has been off now since Thursday, I believe. I tell you all of this to request you pray for our families and all those affected by these storms. I’ll get off my soapbox now and we can get on to the good stuff!
Here’s how my story ended for the week of 9/23 – 9/29/24:
- Continue with bag project and AVOID Jackie the Ripper as much as possible! DONE!! I was able to figure out how to add the quilting and am very pleased with how it turned out. I only had to pull Jackie out one time! YAY!! The small bag is finished, and I even added some bling to it!! Can’t wait to show it to you later this week.
- If I finish this small bag, start on the larger one from the same pattern. Fabric is ready to cut! DONE!! Everything for the bag is cut out and ready to begin stitching.
- One thing I forgot on my list was my Bee Kind Blog Hop project. It was completed and my post was on Thursday. Here is a photo! The mylar doesn’t show up as well in the embroidery in this photo, but if you check out my post, you can see it better. I love using mylar in embroidery!
- Whatever suits my fancy! The only other thing I did was cut out the larger bag. It’s ready to go!
My plans for the week of 9/30 – 10/6:
- Work on large ByAnnie’s bag.
- Start thinking about November blog hop project.
- Work on a couple of patterns for the Spring/Summer 2025 Island Batik catalog.
- Whatever suits my fancy!
Here is a recap of our quilty friends’ shares from last week!

Such a cute kitty meme! Glad your brother in law is safe; at least the storm is passed now!
What a week! I’ve been following the news regarding the devastating floods, and am sorry to learn that your dear ones are in the area. Prayers for safety and comfort for those who are waiting for relief.
Good afternoon, dear Brenda. It is heartbreaking to hear about the situation your dear brother and BIL are in as well as all of the others in the area. This was such a tragic event. I will keep them in my thoughts and prayers . I pray that help will come soon. Sending you warm hugs and blessings.
Oh, I am so sorry about your brothers and all those who are suffering. I hope that help arrives soon to those who are stranded. How heartbreaking to be on a rescue mission and not be able to reach those in need. Blessing on him and all those who do this work.
I’ll be praying with you for your family and others affected by the damage from Helene. Thanks for the chance to share in your party.
It’s been a heck of a week all around.
Brenda, I am so sorry for your brother’s situation. It is so stressful. Hope relief comes soon. Sending best wishes and warm hugs. It can be difficult to sew when you feel down.
I’m adding my prayers to yours for all those people and animals 🙁 affected by Helene. Such a devastating event that happened to those poor folks, and many of them had very little warning. I’ve read it is the Katrina of the southeast. I’m glad your brother is safe, and kudos to your BIL for trying to help. And don’t get me started on the current administration. Ugh – absolutely NO warm fuzzies here at all! Franklin Graham and his Samaritan’s Purse are already quietly in action, sending truckloads of supplies to the area. It is that kind of help that will give these folks at least a little bit of hope. Keep us posted on your brother and BIL.
