Welcome to my day on the Give it a Whirl Blog Hop hosted by sweet Carol of Just Let Me Quilt!
THE CHALLENGE:
Somewhere in or on your project you must include a “whirl”.
This can be a pinwheel, Dresden, or anything that looks like it’s spinning.
Maybe a merry-go-round or Ferris wheel in the fabric?
When I saw this challenge, pinwheel blocks immediately came to mind! I love pinwheel blocks, but they aren’t very challenging to make, so I decided to make 3D pinwheel flowers…with two colors!
These were fun to make and I have a tutorial for you that you can find HERE, if you are interested! I decided to make a little wall hanging with my pinwheel flowers. Here it is!

I used scraps from various Island Batik projects to make this fun little quilt! The background fabric is Dot Sky, which is one of my VERY favorites!! It was quilted with a left over piece of Hobbs Batting. I always save the pieces of binding that are cut off after completing the binding on a quilt. I found two strips of different greens that were long enough, so I made “frankenbinding!” I really enjoy multi-colored bindings! This little quilt measures approximately 24.5 x 32.5, and was pieced with Aurifil thread! I will also be adding it to my March Island Batik post as part of this month’s It’s All Up to You challenge. You really can’t see the quilting very well, but it was all free-motion curls and swirls with a few butterflies thrown in here and there, and ruler work, which gives the illusion (I think) of the pinwheels on the side flowers whirling in the wind!
Thanks so much for visiting today. I hope you’ve enjoyed and been inspired by the Give it a Whirl Blog Hop. Here is the lineup for today. You can check out the entire lineup, which began on Monday, HERE, in case you missed anyone!
