AccuQuilt Add-on for Electric Quilt 8!

Disclaimer: As an affiliate for Electric Quilt, I was invited to receive this add-on for free and to write a product review. Thank you EQ!

Those of you who know me well, know that I LOVE designing my quilts in Electric Quilt (EQ8) and cutting them out using my AccuQuilt dies. Well, just imagine my excitement when I learned there are now AccuQuilt add-ons that you can purchase for EQ8!!

I normally draw my blocks in EQ8 and make them AccuQuilt “friendly” so I can use my Qubes to cut them out. Cutting with my dies and GO!Big cutter really saves time and is not as hard on my hands and shoulders as using my rulers and rotary cutter. Don’t get me wrong, I still use those wonderful tools in quilting as well, but I try to design blocks around AccuQuilt dies…and I have just about all of the mix and match Qubes along with the Corners and Angles, as well, starting with the 4″ all the way up to the 12″ sets. No, I didn’t get them all at one time! I began with the 12″ Qube and a 2-1/2″ strip die about nine or ten years ago and my collection has blossomed since then! LOL

Though creating the blocks in EQ is pretty easy, I am so excited to say, I no longer have to draw those blocks! The first add-on is called AccuQuilt GO! Qube: Mix & Match, Plus Corners and Angles, and will be available in just a few days – on October 21st!

I thought you’d never ask!! This product includes 216 GO! Qube-friendly blocks for your EQ8 Block Library. You can look through the blocks and add any combination of them to your Project Sketchbook. Design until your heart’s content and then cut them out with your chosen AccuQuilt GO! Qube! AccuQuilt add-ons for EQ8 are compatible with GO! Qubes of ANY size! The finished block sizes will match the GO! Qube size you use. All 216 of these blocks were created using die shapes from the GO! Qube Mix & Match Block System, the GO! Qube Corners Companion Set, and the GO! Qube Angles Companion Set.

The download includes a documentation folder with labeled block diagrams so you know which die shape you need for each block. I love AccuQuilt dies because they are numbered so that whichever Qube size you want to use, the die numbers are the same.

You can also import your own fabric images into EQ8 to see your finished quilt before you start cutting! Design quilts in EQ8 with the same blocks included in the AccuQuilt GO! Qube Mix & Match Block System catalog! It’s that easy!

Included with this download: (from EQ8 website)

  • Block library for EQ8 (216 blocks) drawn for an 8″ GO! Qube. Blocks are based on a 2 x 2 grid, which means the finished block size will be the same size as the GO! Qube you use. (Prefer a different size? No problem! With EQ8, you’re the designer so you pick the size and layout! Help for designing with different Qube sizes is in the EQ Add-on Guide included with the download.)
  • EQ Add-on Guide (PDF) with instructions on using the blocks with your Qube, complete with a block-size/Qube-size conversion chart, fabric conversion chart, and other reference information.
  • Block Reference (PDF) with blocks labeled with die-shape numbers, as shown below.

I was so excited when I downloaded my AccuQuilt Add-on, I just had to play around with a few of the blocks and designed a few quilts. The first one I designed is using the Woodcarving block.

I rotated every other block to create this quilt. Isn’t that pretty? It would make a great Christmas Quilt!

Next I chose Old Maid’s Puzzle block.

And designed this quilt.

Next I imported some gorgeous Island Batik fabric and made it look like this! This collection is called Peppermint Sprinkles and is a signature collection by Kathy Engle for Heidi Pridemore of the Whimsical Workshop. I love this collection.

I had so much fun playing with this AccuQuilt Add-on for EQ8. If you love to EQ like I do, AND you love using your AccuQuilt Qubes, Corners and Angles, then you are going to want to have this in your designing arsenal! So head over to Electric Quilt on October 21st to purchase this fun add-on for the best quilt designing software around – EQ8 of course!! Until next time…

Looks fabulous. I can’t wait to try it. I drew up most of the blocks in the EQ8 book at some point, but this will be so much fun. Great quilts you made too with that lovely old block – Old Maid.
