Island Batik challenged the ambassadors this month to create a Drunkard’s Path quilt. We can use any fabric, except the “Surprise” fabric for the May blog hop and the quilt should be lap size or larger, as long as it is a pieced (not appliqued) block! Challenge accepted!!
In the past, I have never done a lot of curved piecing. I took a quick class with a fellow guild member years ago and made a few blocks since then…but not many, so this was a great challenge for me. And, thankfully, I have a die for that! LOL I used the AccuQuilt 7″ finished Drunkard’s Path die in making my quilt as well as Electric Quilt 8 for designing it!
Looking through my stash, I found I had a 10″ stack of Fusion, a Signature Collection by Jerry Khiev for Swan Sheridan of Swan Amity Studios and a gorgeous background fabric, Mocha from Island Batik, in addition to another basic called Flamingo. These basics are always available at your favorite store carrying Island Batik fabrics.

I got serious with EQ8 and started designing. I had fun playing with the block placement and finally decided upon this one!

I then decided which fabrics I wanted to go where, and began chain piecing 62 Drunkard’s Path blocks plus four 7-1/2″ background squares. I pieced the backing with light grey yardage and strips from Island Batik stash builder rolls! And here it is – front and back!!
And it’s even Chloe approved!!

I had a lot of fun quilting this one and used rulers, free motion, and Pro-Stitcher.
Quilt Stats
Quilt Name: Maze
Size: Approximately 56 inches square
Fabric: Island Batik Fusion (10″ squares), Mocha and Flamingo.
Thread: Pieced with my favorite Aurifil 50 wt thread, which is my go to for piecing quilts.
Needle: Schmetz 80/12 Microtex, which are my preferred, especially for batiks.
Pressing: My Oliso Mini-Pro iron which I just love!
Batting: Hobbs 80/20 which gave just enough definition to the quilting.
Thanks to the following for providing the materials to make this quilt: Island Batik/Lumin Fabrics, Aurifil thread, Schmetz needles, Hobbs Batting, and Oliso.

I love curved piecing and I like that you left your blocks with more of the concave fabric outside of the curves – it makes for a fun layout. Do you think you will sew with curves more in the future or are you glad to have this challenge complete? Thanks so much for linking up with Favorite Finish!
Your quilt is lovely ..and drumroll…finished!! This name for the block is funny.. I would take gin tonic for the drunkard’s path….. :-))
I show all these fotos to my hubby – to explain him, that it is the most important job if you are married to a quilter .. helping her to get good fotos! good job – tell him!
happy easter time for you and your family
Hi Brenda, what a gorgeous quilt. I really love the various quilting designs. Were some of them FMQ or ruler work? It’s stunning 🙂 Thanks so much for linking up to Free Motion Mavericks.

Oh Brenda, this quilt is so gorgeous and the fabrics are just scrumptious! What a fabulous way to set the blocks! Aaah Chloe approved- how sweet! Hugs
Thank you Melisa! It was a fun make after I got into the curved piecing! LOL And yes, that Chloe loves her doggie daddy and since he was holding the quilt, she loved it! LOL
That is a really fun design! I love the center motif and then varying designs top/bottom and sides. I love the quilting you did too.
Very pretty quilt!
It’s gorgeous!
Your quilt turned out to be so beautiful Brenda. I love these fabrics. I haven’t tried curved piecing yet. Not even sure I could do it, but it is on my bucket list.
Stunning!

It’s so pretty Brenda.
Fusion was a great choice for this quilt. So pretty! I have been playing with Drunkard’s Path blocks lately too. So many options for layouts.
Nice finish Brenda! The fabric line is beautiful. Chloe really is fixated on it – lol!
