February’s Favorite Finish!

by | Feb 26, 2026 | 6 comments

I am here today to share my February favorite finish with you. This one has been a long time coming. I started this quilt back in 2020 and worked fairly steadily on it until I became an Island Batik ambassador in 2022. The past four years Island Batik has kept me busy…but in a good and challenging way! Unfortunately this project was put on the back burner.

As a part of my UFO list for 2026, I really wanted to get this last, or really next to last block finished. There is a center medallion that I will add, hopefully. I want to think about this for a while and then decide, but likely I will add that extra block in the center which will measure about 37″ or so square.

It had been so long since I had worked on this quilt that I took the last week of January and rewatched Sarah’s videos and re-read instructions on how to get back in the groove. The next week I used my Brother Scan-n-Cut and downloaded the cutting files, backed the fabric with double sided adhesive and got them cut out and then began the process of organizing them into my notebook which I found made everything much easier to find when needed.

So here is Block 12 of Sunshine Cove. I really love this block. This old truck reminds me of growing up when Daddy would put the beds (basically rails with slats across to hold baskets of fruit or produce) on his old truck and we would head to the fields or peach orchard and fill the baskets, and he would drive an hour or so away to the farmer’s market and sell them. Occasionally he would let me and my friend tag along. Though we were sitting for hours, we had fun interacting with customers and just playing around. Granted, back then as a kid I’d rather be most anywhere than working in the fields, especially on hot summer days, but the reward was definitely worth it. We would can and freeze some fruit and produce and sell the rest. My favorite reward was when we would make home made peach ice cream. My cousins and I would take turns sitting on the ice cream maker filled with salt and ice and turning the crank. No, we didn’t have an electric ice cream maker! LOL I can still taste it now – so good!! Enough nostalgia…

Here are all my blocks so far.

Thanks for visiting. I hope you don’t mind my rambling down memory lane about Block 12! I will be linking up with Yvonne of Quilting Jet Girl for February’s Favorite Finish Linky party, and maybe a few others!! Until next time…

Hi Brenda, Thank you for sharing the blocks of your Awesome quilt, and some nostalgic memories that your latest block brought back. Looking forward to seeing your finished quilt. I can’t even imagine how long it took to stitch out each one of the blocks as they are so intricate, with many color changes.

Congratulations on finishing the last block finished. I love it when something can stir up such good memories like time with your dad and homemade ice cream. Good luck deciding on how you want to proceed with these blocks! Thanks for linking up with Favorite Finish.
