I decided to join in the fun with Angela at So Scrappy for this year’s Rainbow Scrap Challenge. I have SEW many beautiful leftover fabrics from my four years as an Island Batik ambassador. The Rainbow Scrap Challenge color for January is BLUE. While I don’t have a LOT of blue scraps, I was able to find some rather nice ones.
I remembered a quilt I had made for the Island Batik Catalog that has some gorgeous, wintry blues with reindeer, snowflakes, holly leaves, and pretty swirlies, so I dug out the bag that had my left overs in it. Here is a photo of the quilt I made with it. It is called Dashing Through the Snow!
Now to my blocks for the RSC.
My friend Nancy, from Grace and Peace Quilting, made a version of my inspiration for this quilt using snowball and 9-patch blocks. I fell in love with it immediately. You can read about her inspiration for this quilt HERE. Her quilt was finished back in November and she made a second, baby quilt, with the leftover blocks she had.
I decided to do my version of the snowball block and combine it with a cup block, inspired by my friend Sharon from Ms. P Designs. Sharon has been making two blocks AND a zipper bag for the RSC challenges. I’m not quite that ambitious, but I am making two blocks at least!
Anyway, I designed my version of the snowball and the 9-patch blocks. I decided to put a dk grey solid in the center of each 9-patch throughout the year so as to tie in the star points created by the snowball block. And here are my two blocks for January. I still need to trim the cup snowball block! My blocks are 12 inches finished. As the Donkey in Shrek said (with a little twist from me@), “I like big cups, I cannot lie!” Those of you who follow my blog know I love coffee! LOL And this is my tribute to big coffee mugs!
I really am pleased with how these came out. And I think these fabrics are perfect for a cold January!!
I will be linking up with Angela at So Scrappy for Scrap Happy Saturday!
Until next time…
