This month, Island Batik and Funky Friends Factory joined together and gave the ambassadors a challenge to make our choice of stuffed toys on the Funky Friends Factory website! There are so many cute toys from which to choose. I chose Dizzy, the Dolphin! I love Dolphins and I had the perfect recipient in mind when I chose this toy. Miss Nora Kate is our Children’s Pastor’s daughter and just graduated kindergarten. Her favorite colors are pink and purple!
Meet Dizzy, the Dolphin!
Some interesting facts about dolphins: Dolphins are mammals, not fish. They breathe air, give birth to live young, and nurse their calves. They are very intelligent animals, and very social as well. They live in pods and sleep with one eye open so they can keep an eye on their pod. They are incredibly fast swimmers and some dolphins, such as those in the Amazon River, have a pink coloration, which fits great with my Dizzy! Each dolphin has it’s own unique whistle or voice!
Our patterns were provided by Funky Friends Factory. These patterns are well written and there are lots of photos and illustrations to help. I really like the fact that she adds check boxes ☑ to help keep up with the steps you have completed.
For her body, I used Urchin, an Island Batik basic, since it has both pinks and purples in it. Island Batik basics are available year round from your favorite LQS that carries Island Batik fabrics. I used Almond for her tummy. I had a half-yard cut of Island Batik, Bubbles – Carnation, that was used for her fins and nose. I sewed her together using Aurifil beige from my stash, and an 80/12 Schmetz microtex needle! I used my Oliso Mini Pro 3 project iron to make sure the fabrics were all pressed neatly! She was stuffed with Hobbs Fiberfill (did you know Hobbs makes more than just great batts?!). I decided to use pink googly eyes instead of buttons or felt.
Here are my two previous Island Batik/Funky Friends Factory projects. Meet Shirley Sue, the Squirrel, and Bella, the Highland Cow.

Many thanks to Island Batik and their industry partners, who provided supplies used in making Dizzy!
I hope you enjoyed meeting Dizzy! Please check out my fellow ambassadors’ blogs as they will be sharing their Funky Friends throughout the month. I also will share them on my Songbird Designs Facebook Group, Songbird Designs Page, and Instagram, throughout the month!

Dizzy the Dolphin is just adorable. I love your sharing of the fun facts and your look back on your previous funky friends.
Aaw Dizzy is adorable as are all of the critters that you made so far. I learned several new facts about dolphins. I had no idea there were dolphins in the Amazon- so interesting.
