Let’s Have a Picnic!

I hope you have been enjoying all the picnic-y inspiration from my fellow bloggers this week! I have always loved picnics and went on quite a few growing up, and when our daughter was younger, but not so many anymore! Still it was always a fun thing. My fondest memory of a picnic was in fourth grade when we went on a field trip to Moundville, AL to see the Mounds. We dressed up in our Native American costumes and toured the mounds as well as the museum. We took a sack lunch and ate on the picnic tables by the Great Warrior River! It’s amazing I can remember something from 60 years ago and can’t remember what I had for lunch yesterday!!

When I think of picnics, I also think of quilts…and bugs! When I thought about this hop, this quilt immediately came to mind, and it is the perfect size on which to spread out some food and enjoy. I even included the bugs so you don’t have to go find any! LOL

This fabric has some fun ladybugs in it and I quilted it with a motif that included daisies and ladybugs! The name of the mini charm packs I used is Solana. Unfortunately it is no longer available, but it was perfect for this quilt! This is a free pattern you can pick up from Fat Quarter Shop! While you are there use this same link to pick up some fabric for it. (Affiliate link: If you use my link I receive a small commission but it doesn’t cost you any extra! Thanks for supporting my blog!)

Growing up, we had “dinner on the grounds” at church and had concrete tables outside under the trees (this was before fellowship halls!) and it really was a church picnic! My sweet Mama made THE best potato salad in the county! There was no recipe per se (she never used recipes!), but she used potatoes, mustard, mayo, pickles, eggs, and onions. It was fantastic! Everyone always loved it!

Do you have a favorite picnic memory? How about a favorite recipe that you have taken on picnics? I’d love to hear about it!

I hope you will visit my fellow bloggers today and see what sort of picnic goodies they are sharing! Here is the schedule. You can see the entire schedule in my Sunday post.

Lovely quilt and bright, summery colors. Thanks so much for sharing. I don’t do picnics much but with my new denim picnic blanket almost done, perhaps we will do them more. I don’t have a picnic recipe but I do love a huge slice of watermelon on a hot, summer day.

I’d rather have those fabric bugs than those yucky real ones. I hate how ants seem to find us when we try to enjoy a day at the park. Your picnic quilt is perfect and beautiful for eating potato salad and fried chicken. I love the design and fabrics…so bright and pretty! I laughed at your remembering details from long ago, but not being able to remember what you had for lunch yesterday. That is definitely true for me! Thank you for sharing your picnic memories and quilt!

What a pretty quilt Brenda, love the fabric AND the bugs. 🙂 I remember Dinner on the Grounds (are you Methodist?), and your Mama made potato salad just like mine did!

Fabulous picnic quilt, Brenda and I love that you included the bugs to we don’t have to find any. Lol. Hubby and I often have picnics when we are traveling. It is always nice when we find peaceful places where we can enjoy the scenery as we munch on our meals. I am going to have to put Moundville on my destination list. Thank you for sharing. Hugs.
