This month Island Batik left the project decisions to the ambassadors! These are always fun months, but sometimes I get a little lost without direction…and chase squirrels! LOL
This is Shirley Sue. I made her a couple of years ago for the Island Batik – Funky Friends Factory challenge! She is my go-to squirrel pic! At any rate I chased a couple of squirrels this month for projects. So, let’s see where they led, shall we?!
My first project is a pillow cover. I have a really thick cushion that needed a nice cover, so I stitched some of the strips left over from the Fairy Floss collection that I used for the Log Cabin Blog Hop. This is an original collection by Tammy Silvers of Tamarinis for Island Batik. I love this collection so I had to use more of it!!
My next project is one I’ve been wanting to make for a while now. I purchased this June Tailor Quilt-as-You-Go Alexandra Tote a while back to make with some left over 2-1/2″ strips. So I dug through my stash and found them. Most of these are from a Lone Star project I made a little over a year ago, but I did cut a couple of others. One of the great things about Island Batik fabric lines is how well they all play together! This went together quickly and was fun to make.
And here is one final project that I made earlier this month for the Give It a Whirl Blog Hop. This was a fun project making two-color 3D pinwheels. If you want to make them for yourself, here is a tutorial for you. This was made with Dot Sky background and scraps from various projects.
Thanks for stopping by to see my March Island Batik projects! The Fairy Floss collection is shipping to stores now. Here are a few of the locations! Check with your favorite LQS also!

The fabric used to make these projects was provided to me by Island Batik. The 80/12 needles I use were provided to me by Schmetz Needles. These are the best needles for sewing batiks or any other fabric! I also use them for embroidery projects. I pieced all of these projects with Aurifil thread, provided by Aurifil, as wel as from my stash. I love Aurifil 50 wt thread for piecing. Some of the strips were cut with my AccuQuilt strip dies. Thank you to these sponsors!
I hope you will visit my fellow ambassadors and see what they’ve created for this challenge!
