Coffee: liquid optimism for a Monday morning ☕️🌞

Happy Monday morning!!! Welcome to Monday Musings! Well, today my sweet baby girl celebrates her 16th birthday. How did she get this old this quickly?! Last weekend they went on her birthday trip to Gatlinburg/Sevierville area. It was quite an eventful trip! When they arrived Friday evening a cabin just down the road from theirs was on fire and burned down. Saturday they were going to take the sky lift to Anakeesta and as they were in line waiting to catch the ride, someone fell off and they shut the lift down. They had to ride up the mountain in a cold, big, open truck! Saturday night/Sunday morning, a storm blew through and a tree fell onto the cabin across the road from them! Monday morning when they were getting ready to load up it was in the teens. I’m glad they are home and safe! How was your week? Now, on to the good stuff!!
Here’s how my story ended for the week of 2/17 – 2/23/25:
- Work on March Island Batik challenge. DONE!! I have one block complete and plans for several others. I’m using a strip set of Cosmic, designed by Jackie Kunkel of Canton Village Quilt Works for Island Batik. One of the blocks I am using is the Rolling Stone block. I sized the block so the strip set works perfectly!
- Work on Round Six of SAHRR. DONE!! See my next post! Here are some of my blocks for Round 6.

- Sew a block from the new EQ add-on, Kaleidoscope Two and write a review. DONE!! Check out my review HERE. This is the block I will be stitching in some gorgeous Island Batik fabrics! I will post it mid March on the DoYouEQ blog!

- Clean my machine! Nope! Well, I cleaned a little and changed the needle but it needs a thorough cleaning…this week!
- Clean a little in the studio. Nope! Again, a little was done, but it needs MUCH MORE!!
- Whatever cranks my tractor! We tried a new recipe, Turtle Dump Cake, and it turned out pretty good! I’ll use less pecans next time. I also made English Peas and Potatoes to take for our church homecoming yesterday. That’s about it!
Plans for the week of 2/24 – 3/2/25:
- Work on March IB project.
- Work on paper (less) piecing block above. I have two spokes completed and am really liking it! If you wonder why I said paperless, I use freezer paper!!
- Give Sally a thorough cleaning.
- Thirty minutes cleaning the studio and putting away Accuquilt dies!
- Whatever suits my fancy.
Here is some quilty inspiration shared last week!
Thanks to everyone who linked up!
Now it’s your turn to link up projects you’re working on!

Electric Quilt: EQ just released a new add-on for EQ8 on Wednesday, February 12th! One of their best-selling add-ons, “Kaleidoscope Collection” has remained so popular with users that they decided to create a second one! The Kaleidoscope Collection Two collection. There are 514 different blocks from which to choose. There is a large variety of styles including traditional twists, improv, stars, compasses, pinwheels, flowers, seasons, log cabins, and more. I even saw a block with hearts! It would be great for Valentine’s Day. You can choose from star-point corners or square corners and each produces a different secondary design effect. I had a great time going through all the blocks available and found it difficult to choose just one!! If you love traditional paper piecing or paperless (freezer paper) piecing, you will LOVE this new product!

Have a wonderful quilty week. Until next time…

Oh my what an eventful weekend for your dear granddaughter! I can see why you are glad she is back home. I hope she had a great birthday. Have a lovely day. Hugs.
What a celebration for the birthday girl! Glad they arrived home safely! Have a great week!
Have a great week!
Yikes! What a memorable trip. I really like the Kaleidoscope block you picked. I’m looking forward to seeing it made up in some great Island Batik. Must say I like Cosmic. It looks like it would work in a lot of different designs.
I would like to see sewists instead of sewer!
I just read the paragraph about the 16th birthday celebration to my husband, and he said “I think I’d turn around and go home!” – lol! I bet they won’t forget that birthday. 😀 “Turtle Dump Cake” – yum!
Happy 16th Birthday to your baby girl! Time goes by way too quickly!! Lovely blocks for SAHRR! xx
