Timeless Traditions Blog Hop – My Day!

by | Nov 3, 2025 | 32 comments

Today begins the Island Batik Timeless Traditions Blog Hop and I have the privilege of helping to kick it off! Our challenge for this month was to make a quilt using at least five blocks and the fabric from the “Surprise Package” we received in our July boxes. I am so glad to be able to finally share this gorgeous collection of fabric with you all. I had fun coming up with different blocks for this quilt!

Here is the fabric I was given to use. We received a half yard of each of the fabrics in this collection, Bloom Grove, by Jerry Khiev. Aren’t these fabrics gorgeous? Honestly, these are not my usual go-to fabrics of pinks, purples, aquas, but I was really drawn to this collection. I love the flowers, sunflowers and the swirls and curls.

I always design my quilts in EQ8 by Electric Quilt. Some of my blocks are traditional blocks, or traditional blocks with a twist! Here is my EQ8 rendering.

Sedona Starburst (Pattern available soon!)

The blocks I used included a nine-patch star variation of a friendship star (I named Aztec Star), my variation of Delectable Mountain (I named Aztec Mountain), half-square triangles of varying sizes (this block I named Geese in the Wind), and plain square and rectangle blocks. The center medallion includes a traditional nine-patch, V-blocks or triangle in a square, a kite block, along with with some rectangles with flip and stitch snow-balled corners (I named Sedona Mountain). Many of my blocks were cut with my AccuQuilt cutting system and Qubes!

And here is my completed quilt! The photos aren’t great as Chicken Legs’ arms are not quite long enough and the tall grands and SIL were busy! LOL Plus with the rain this week, the weather has not been the most cooperative. The photo really does not do the fabrics justice! Click the photos to enlarge. I had a lot of fun custom quilting this with rulers and free motion quilting along with Hobbs Poly Down batting.

Quilt Stats:

Quilt/Pattern Name: Sedona Starburst (Pattern available soon!)
Size: 68 x 68 inches
Fabric: Bloom Grove by Jerry Khiev for Island Batik (Bloom Grove is shipping to shops soon)
Batting: Hobbs Poly Down (it gives such a great loft)
Thread: Pieced with Aurifil Dove Grey
Needle: Schmetz 80/12 (my go to for batiks)
Pressed with: My Oliso Mini Iron

Many thanks to Island Batik (Lumin Fabrics), Hobbs Batting, Aurifil thread, Oliso Irons, and Schmetz Needles for providing the products used in making this quilt!

Island Batik has put aside two Fat Quarter bundles of the Enchanted Flutter and Cherry Blossom collections that will be featured next week!

But wait…there’s more!! Here is how to enter the giveaway.

All you need to do is visit this post on Instagram and/or this post on Facebook and answer a simple question in the comments: Has a tradition ever inspired something you’ve made – a quilt, a gift, or a handmade project? (We’d love to hear how traditions influence your creativity.)

This giveaway ends on November 8th! Winners will be notified in comments the following day — please check your notifications on November 9th!

Today, fellow ambassador Susan Deshensky from Lady Blue Quilt Studio is sharing her quilt made with this collection. Check it out on her website HERE. My fellow ambassadors will be sharing throughout the month. You can find the schedule on THIS POST.

Thanks for stopping by. Until next time…

That quilt is so beautiful, Brenda! I love all the specialty quilting…it does take a long time placing each one of those designs, but as I recall, as you “repeat” some, that does seem to go faster. I really love it and all the time you spent quilting the life into it.

What a beautiful design Brenda! I love those fabrics – to me they are perfect for fall. Your quilting just makes it shine – nicely done! I think Chicken Legs did a great job holding it. 😀
